International Climate Forum: Our Team Delivered Simultaneous Interpretation in 6 Languages
In April 2026, our company served as the official translation partner for one of the largest climate forums in Eastern Europe. Three days of intensive programming, over 800 participants from 34 countries, plenary sessions, panel discussions and bilateral negotiations — all in real time, without pauses or loss of meaning.
What Happened Behind the Scenes
Preparations for the event began six weeks before its opening. Our interpreters received a package of materials: the forum agenda, presentation abstracts, a glossary of terms in climate policy, environmental law and carbon regulation. Each specialist attended an individual briefing with a sector coordinator.
Four simultaneous interpretation booths were set up, equipped with professional Bosch equipment. A team of 12 interpreters worked in shifts — two per booth, rotating every 20–25 minutes — which allowed them to maintain high concentration and translation quality throughout the event.
Languages and Directions
The working languages of the forum were:
- Russian — the primary language for a large portion of CIS delegates
- English — the language of international communication and most official documents
- German — for representatives of German and Austrian partner organizations
- French — for delegations from French-speaking countries and international institutions
- Polish — for the large Polish delegation representing the Visegrad Group
- Romanian — as the official language of the host country
Interpretation was provided for all possible language pairs: not only from English into the other languages, but also between regional languages, which required special logistics and prior coordination of the speaking order.
Technical Challenges and How We Solved Them
One of the key challenges was the speaking pace of some presenters. Several speakers read pre-prepared texts at a rate significantly faster than what is comfortable for simultaneous interpretation. In such cases, interpreters applied a compression technique — conveying the essence of the message without sacrificing the accuracy of key formulations.
Presentations in regional dialects and with strong accents posed a separate challenge. Advance work with the materials and briefings with the organizers helped minimize the risks.
Feedback from the Organizers
At the close of the forum, the event coordinator noted that the linguistic coverage had been rated by participants as one of the strongest in recent years. Several foreign delegations specifically thanked the interpreters for the accuracy of legal and technical wording during the final resolution.
Simultaneous Interpretation — More Than Just Translating Words
True simultaneous interpretation requires the specialist to listen, understand, rephrase and speak simultaneously — with a delay of no more than 2–3 seconds.
